The importance of manaakitanga

“He aroha whakatō, he aroha puta mai.” - If kindness is sown, then kindness shall be received.

Manaakitanga is a beautiful word and concept; essentially, it’s a way or process of showing respect, generosity and care for the people and communities we engage with. It is the selfless act of kindness and respect you show others. Supporting, listening and involving the people in our collective mahi takes a genuine commitment to relationships and a shared understanding of people and place. Mahia te Aroha and InCommon personify manaakitanga, as does the mahi they do with their communities in the social cohesion space.

It was an absolute privilege for Weave to support the Partnership Brokers one-day workshop in Ōtautahi Christchurch recently and share the day with InCommon, Mahia te Aroha, Wayne Francis Charitable Trust and our other partners in the community.
