Weave is a collaboration of eight Family Foundations from around Aotearoa that helps groups work together to achieve greater outcomes for their communities.

While our focus on supporting community collaborations remains the same, after 10 years as the ‘Working Together More Fund’ (WTMF) we have rebranded to ‘Weave’, with a new proactive funding approach and the creation of a collaboration hub.

About Weave

The name ‘Weave’ refers to the great things that can be achieved if we weave our work together: delivering higher quality initiatives; running more services; increasing support for our people and communities; and achieving long-term positive change for generations to come.

Weave supports collaborations through donations and access to resources – helping to build capacity and knowledge within organisations so they can come together to make even greater change.

Until the end of 2020, the WTMF ran three granting rounds a year. Now, Weave supports organisations in a more holistic and proactive way. We accept Expressions of Interest and actively seek out collaborative initiatives instead of requiring a formal application.

At Weave, we build trusted relationships and partner with collaborating organisations in a meaningful way so that together we can make positive change to support our communities.

The team behind Weave

In 2009, representatives from Wayne Francis Charitable Trust, J R McKenzie Trust, Todd Foundation and The Tindall Foundation came together to discuss how they could best help not-for-profit organisations to manage through the recession and into the years ahead.

After commissioning research and consultation, they found that collaboration could add significant value to groups’ effectiveness and efficiency. They saw that while this was already occurring with many community groups, it took time and was not always easy.

In October 2009, the four Family Foundations launched the ‘Working Together More Fund’. In 2011 the Hugh Green Foundation joined the group followed by the DV Bryant Trust in 2013, the Len Reynolds Trust in 2018 and the Lindsay Foundation in 2019. With Lindsay Foundation stepping back, Clare Foundation joined in 2022.

These are the eight Family Foundations behind Weave today.
